Product data
The sintered pellets are manufactured with smooth internal surfaces, accurately moulded, and are therefore suitable for cleaning up and polishing with very little removal of material. Depending on size, shape, grade, type of application or other considerations, the sintered pieces may be supplied by either normal cold pressing, hot pressing, cold isostatic pressing or hot isostatic pressing, which is more popular today. Hot isostatic pressing gives the user a certain and continued freedom from porosity, no matter how many times the bores are opened out and repolished. Various grades are available incorporating a cobalt content normally within the range 3% to 30% and with various grain sizes, depending on the bore size, material to be drawn and conditions present in the application. Pellets can be supplied uncased or with a tapered O/D so as to fit a customer's existing holders, or as externally ground pellets mounted in brass or steel cases, up to and including 28mm O/D; above this the pellets are mounted in steel only. At Foxton we have always insisted on shrink fitting the die pellets into the case to maximise concentricity between pellet bore and external diameters of the case after assembly. Pellets with external diameters up to and including 9mm can be supplied rough cored as small as 0.075mm bore, for lapping and polishing out to approximately 0.125/0.150mm bore. The drawing angle of the pellets under normal conditions is available between 10 and 16 degrees inclusive. Where narrower or wider angles are required and especially where they are associated with small bore sizes, delivery times may be extended. All finished dies are supplied to tolerances stated in ISO standards; accurately shaped, lapped and polished to a high finish to give maximum performance and life. |
